Medical Officers

Report to: Medical Superintendent

Responsibilities

Provide Primary Care Services as follows: 

  • Urgent medical and nursing services (including resuscitation, stabilization and assessment and diagnosis, treatment and referral as necessary);
  • Assess the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination, and investigation.
  • Recommending and, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carrying out/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counseling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
  • Referral for diagnostic, therapeutic and support services as required.

Provide timely clinical and culturally appropriate health services through –

  • Ongoing health and development assessment and advice.
  • Appropriate evidence-based screening, risk assessment and early detection of illness, disease, and disability.
  • Use of recall and reminder systems and referral, as appropriate, to national screening programs.
  • Interventions to assist people to reduce or change risky and harmful lifestyle behavior.
  • Family planning services, provision of contraceptive advice and sexual health services.
  • Ensure Immunization programs are available to the practice population.
  • Working with public health providers in the prevention and control of communicable diseases for individuals and families/whanau and reporting to relevant public health providers.
  • Ongoing care and support for people with chronic and terminal conditions to reduce deterioration, increase independence and reduce suffering linking, where relevant, with appropriate service providers.

Coordination of care-

  • Coordinating an individual’s rehabilitation process and participating where appropriate in providing recovery orientated services to restore normal functioning;
  • Developing collaborative working relationships with community health services and non-Government public health providers.
  • Establishing links with a range of primary and secondary health care providers and developing initiatives to enable patient-centric, coordinated care that meets the needs of individuals and their family.

Improve patient health through –

  • Health Promotion.
  • Health education, counseling, and information provision about how to improve health and prevent disease and interventions or treatments that treat risk factors.
  • Professional liaison with other health professionals is maintained-
  • All staff is informed, as appropriate, about anything that they should be aware of regarding a patient or regarding the internal workings of the practice.
  • Staff and team meetings are attended as requested.
  • Hours of work are set out in the Employment Agreement, however, there may be times when you are required to undertake other duties outside of these hours as requested. This may involve attendance at meetings, staff meetings or training sessions.
  • All staff problems or issues are referred to as the practice manager in the first instance.
  • All patient consultations must be accurately recorded in the clinical patient notes within 24 hours of seeing the patient
  • Ongoing CME is maintained at least at the level required to maintain ongoing accreditation through the maintenance of professional standards.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full Registration with the MDCN.
  • Current Practicing License.
  • Completed National Youth Service Corps.
  • Strong Interest in Paediatrics/O&G/Emergency Medicine.
  • Aptitude for Medical Quality Management.
  • Strong Work Ethics.
  • Post NYSC Practice Experience an Advantage.

Pediatric Nurse

Job Position: Pediatric Nurse

Report to: Matron

Responsibilities

  • Receives and welcomes the patient to the nursing unit.
  • Identifies patient care requirements by establishing a personal rapport with patients.
  • Prepares a plan of nursing care for the patient and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Delivers prescribed treatment and medications in a safe manner and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Participates in health education to prepare the patient and family for discharge.
  • Maintains patient confidence by keeping the information confidential.
  • Ensure that professional standards are maintained and developed in line with best practice, research and are evidence-based.
  • Be responsible for developing own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
  • Research, evaluate, learn and practice new trends in the industry.
  • To be aware and abide by all rules and regulations of outreach.
  • Assess and plan nursing care requirements for babies, neonates, and children.
  • Provide care before and after operations for babies, neonates, and children.
  • Monitor and administer medication, injections and intravenous infusions to babies, neonates, and children.
  • Treat wounds of babies, neonates, and children.
  • Take samples from babies, neonates, and children and monitor their pulse, temperature, and blood pressure.
  • Check and monitor the condition of babies, neonates, and children.
  • Deal with emergencies in babies, neonates, and children.
  • Organize workloads.
  • Obtaining parental consent for the treatment of babies, neonates, and children.
  • Write and maintain records.
  • Provide information, emotional support and reassurance to patients and relatives.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Appropriate nursing protocols and skills
  • Ability to work long hours, often under pressure

Education and Licenses

  • Registered Nurse and Midwifery.
  • Updated membership of relevant professional institution.

NB: You must have at least 3 years experience in a similar role.
